Southall landings marina Hurricane preparness tips
We are now officially in Hurricane season. In the event a tropical storm or Hurricane approaches please be prepared in ADVANCE. Following are some tips and requirements:
-
Dock lines: Make sure you boat is securely moored. All boats must have spring lines to prevent the boat from banging against or getting caught under the docks. Spring your boat AWAY from the docks. Make sure your lines are of sufficient size for your boat and in GOOD condition. Allow for the rise in tides. Attach the bitter end of the line to the dock cleats to allow for line adjustments from the dock instead of your boat. Consider adding additional lines if conditions warrant.
-
Dinghy Dock Slip Holders: Depending on the severity of the storm it would be advisable to remove you dinghy and store it at home. If this cannot be done, make sure the dinghy is securely tied down, partially filled with water, engines and all items removed.
-
General comments: Make sure dock boxes are properly secured to the dock and lids are latched. Insure all canvas is secured. Check the condition of bilge pumps and batteries. Remove any loose gear on and around your boat.
While we will check on the boats if conditions allow, it is the boat owner's responsibility to make certain their boat is as prepared as it can be in the event of a storm.
